The contrast between the sharp treatment of the water and the soft-focus treatment of the dune behind makes it look like she could be sitting in a pool in front of a painted wall, rather than at the shore. It's nice and ambiguous.
My daughter had a similar take on the "Morning Coffee" painting. She said he was getting his picture taken with a painting of trees behind him.
